Overview
Ningbo is a major sub-provincial city in the northeast of Zhejiang Province near Shanghai, Shaoxing, and Taizhou. It is sometimes called Yong. It has a temperate and humid climate. It has four distinct seasons and an average temperature of 16,2°C. The Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the world’s longest trans-oceanic bridge, cuts the distance from Ningbo to Shanghai from 304 km to 179 km. Ningbo covers an area of almost 10 million square kilometers and has a population of roughly 9.544 million inhabitants.
Ningbo is a renowned cultural and historical city. As one of the oldest cities in China, it witnessed the rise and fall of many dynasties. It is the birthplace of the Hemudu Culture, which has over 7,000 years of history. It has been a famous port for shipping, trading, and cultural exchange since the Tang and Song Dynasties.
Economic Profile
As the southern economic center of the Yangtze River Delta, Ningbo has always been a city of historical and economic importance in international trade. The city’s pillar industries are petrochemicals and chemicals, IT-related industries, electrical machinery, port-related industry, telecom equipment manufacturing, and textiles. Other specializations available are manufacturing information appliances, software, electronics, microelectronics, photovoltaic, fine machinery, modern paper making, port logistics, shipbuilding, and stainless steel.
In 2021, the city’s total fiscal revenue was 326.44 billion yuan, up by 15.1% over the previous year.
The GDP of Ningbo was 1459.49 billion yuan (US$191.68 billion), up by 8.2% over the previous year. And the per capita GDP accounted for 153,922 yuan (equivalent to US$23,858 at the annual exchange rate).
According to Ningbo Customs, Ningbo’s total foreign trade imports and exports reached 1.19 trillion yuan, an increase of 21.6% compared with the previous year (the same below), among them, the export was 762.43 billion yuan, an increase of 19%, and the import was 430.18 billion yuan, an increase of 26.3%.
